Program Description
HOY en Adelante is a nation-wide
program utilizing one-act skits or vignettes,
known as corridos in the Latino community, along
with storytelling to illustrate ways to prevent
diabetes among Latinos at risk and to prevent
complications for those living with diabetes.
Using a “family-based” approach, "HOY
en Adelante" will target Latinas to serve
as educators for the entire Latino community,
with special attention being placed on low-income
populations.
In addition, HOY en Adelante has a policy component,
which is to increase the capacity of local, regional,
and national organizations to reduce diabetes
in Latina/o communities. "HOY en Adelante"
serves as the vehicle to promote healthy behavior
change and reduce health disparities.
